Ethiopian Berberé is a hot and flavorful mix of more than a dozen ingredients.  It can be used as a dry or wet rub on roasted meats or tofu.  Add it to stews and sauces for a bold and full flavor profile.  Subtle flavored dishes such as beans, lentils and potatoes will be transformed into a true delight.  This is a hot spice which can be used judiciously or with recklessness depending on your mood.

    Ethiopian Berbere

Posted by Mia on 30th Jul 2018

This is my go-to gift for any occasion. It's my favorite Teeny Tiny spice because it's so versatile - on meat, veggies, grains. I love this stuff so much. Turkey sloppy joes with this spice is a favorite. Or on a BBQ roasted chicken pizza with mushrooms and goat cheese. You can also just sprinkle it an a baked potato or yam and make something simple, really tummy. I go through more than a few cans a year.

    Ethiopian Berbere

Did the “Three Sisters Salad” actually made it a four sister because I added roasted beets. Dinner company raved about it. A wonderful rich flavor with a nice spice finish. Such a unique flavor that compliments so many dishes. TTS delivers the most unique, fresh spices around. Plus their recipe list is outstanding. Thank you.

I have been using this blend of spices for some time now for making meatballs (veal, lamb or mix of both) and it is just delicious. I just add some salt, parsley, scallion and garlic...

    Intense Flavor!

I used this to make Ethiopian Spice Chicken Stew from Eating Well. Their recipe called for 5 table spoons of this spice! Luckily I experimented with one and half and it had tremendous flavor and still and a slow heat. I have also tried the British Curry and love both products so far!

    Love It!

I love this spice and especially that it is organic. I made the roasted butternut squash soup that was on the label and it is delicious; though I used 1 Tbs instead of 2 of the spice blend and that was the perfect heat for me.
Love your company. I'm very happy to find such a nice selection of organic spices.

I usually don't like much heat but this blend is a mind-changer. The vegetarian recipe I use it in is now one of my favorites.

    Nice Heat

I used the Ethiopian Berbere to make Doro Wat (ethiopian chicken stew). It tasted good but nothing like the Doro Wat that an ethiopian lady made for me when I was visiting in the Middle East. I did enjoy the dish though. I will order it again - nice heat.

I'm Ethiopian. "Ethiopian Berbere spice by Teeny Tiny Spice Co. is NOT Ethiopian flavor - not even close!

Posted by Helen on 5th Dec 2014

I was excited looking forward to tasting the spice in organic form. A good thought / idea, but this is certainly nothing even close to the original taste of our authentic spice.I'm Ethiopian - I know! Makes me wonder where on earth they got the idea that it was.

As a spice on it's own is ok. But call it something else. It's actually offensive to me that it's said to be Ethiopian Berbere when it's not even close. A real disappointment.

    Hi Helen,

We are sorry that you are disappointed, and that you are offended. We post all of the comments that we receive. If your intention was to provide us with constructive feedback, we just wish you said it in a nicer way. We are a very small company with a human face and we work very hard at what we do.

We developed this blend based on thorough research of current and older cookbooks and recipe sources of Ethiopian Berberé spices from Ethiopian and African authors. We actually have several repeat customers from Ethiopia, who tell us that our Ethiopian Berberé tastes just like home.

As with all ethnic/traditional blends, there are many variations...perhaps as many as there are cooks! We cannot match all of these different variations in one blend, but we do our best to stay true to each cuisine. It would be like someone trying to make a single spice blend to represent "American Barbecue" are not going to match everybody's idea of what Barbecue flavor is.

    Best Wishes,
    Ed & Thora
