FAQs

Are you in Vermont or Virginia?

We started our company in Vermont and lived there until the spring of 2015.  At that time we moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for a new anesthesia job for Ed.  Although the name has changed slightly from Teeny Tiny Spice Co. of Vermont® to Teeny Tiny Spice Company®, our recipes are unchanged and we continue to make every batch and fill every tin ourselves.

Yes they are.

How long do the spices last?

Our spice blends have a very long shelf life. We freshly grind and then package each batch to seal in the freshness. Air and sunlight are the two main elements that affect the shelf life of spices. For this reason, we package our spices in tins that seal out both air and sunlight. We have time-tested our blends and have found that even after one year, they still have rich flavor.  In our home, each tin provides enough spice for 4 to 12 main courses for our family.  If you have not used a spice blend four or more times in six months, we figure that it is time for you to clear it out of your kitchen and try something different.

How much do I use?

Each tin comes with a recipe on the lid to get you started.  We also have an extensive recipe website. Click Here to go to the Recipe Website.  Our rule of thumb is to use 2 tablespoons of spice in a "full size" (e.g. 4-6 serving) recipe, so be bold and experiment, creating your own dishes!  Another strategy in adapting our spice blends to an existing recipe is to replace the spices in the recipe with an equal measurement of our spice blend.  Go light with Garam Masala; perhaps 1 teaspoon in a dish as a starting point.

Who certifies your products and facilities?

Our production facility is inspected and approved as a food production facility by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and the FDA.

Our organic certification is by Pennsylvania Certified Organic.

Our kosher certification is by Earth Kosher.
